Railway 200 Competition

How do you use your railway?
This year, we celebrate 200 years of the modern railway. To commemorate the milestone, help us create a snapshot of life on and near our railways in 2025.
The railway has shaped our lives for 200 years, transforming the landscapes we move through, and bringing people closer together. It has taken us to places we could not have imagined in 1825, and it has brought us home again
This year, as part of our Railway 200 celebrations, we are asking Scotland’s people to consider the question ‘How do you use your railway?’
Do you work in the rail industry or are you an enthusiast? Is watching the sun rise over the tracks part of your daily commute, or is a spot of weekend trainspotting your thing? Do you have a favourite cycling route that follows the line, or enjoy a ramble along one of our disused track beds? Do you volunteer at a heritage railway to keep our shared history alive for new generations of enthusiasts?
Capture your favourite places and activities on camera and show us what Scotland’s railway means to you in 2025.
Send your best photographs to museum@srps.org.uk and help us to create a snapshot of railway life 200 years after the first train ran. The collection we build together will be accessioned to our nationally recognised collection and become part of Scotland’s railway history.
