MoSR Collection Retains Recognised Status

Just a handful of the people who help care for and share our Collection every day...
… and whose faces featured in our Status Review. There are many, many more whose dedication and hardwork has helped us to achieve this milestone. Thank you all.
We are delighted to announce that the Museum of Scottish Railways has successfully retained its status as a Recognised Collection following a recent Status Review carried out through Scotland’s Recognition Scheme.
Managed by Museums Galleries Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government since 2006, Scotland’s Recognition Scheme celebrates nationally significant collections held outside the country’s national museums. The five-yearly Status Review is a routine part of the scheme, giving museums an opportunity to show how their Recognised Collections are cared for, used and shared, while reflecting on changing priorities, current relevance, progress and future plans.
Retaining Recognition confirms that our Collection remains of national importance, and that our work in advocacy, collections care, access, sustainability, learning, research and partnership working meets the updated objectives of the scheme, introduced in 2025. The award is an important milestone for our Museum and a strong endorsement of the work being carried out by staff, volunteers, trustees and supporters.
A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to this achievement. Your dedication ensures that Scotland’s railway heritage continues to be cared for, shared and celebrated for generations to come.
