Name our Snow Plough

The elves aren’t the only things keeping an eye (or two) on the naughty and the nice this Christmas. Our snow plough has always been a big character at the museum and this year, it got a makeover to make it even more engaging.
Ploughs like these would be added to the front of engines at this time of year to clear snow from the line. It was a risky business. The engine had to travel at high speed with no idea of what might be hiding beneath often deep drifts. It took steely determination to get the job done and this is the expression that volunteer Douglas (pictured) has captured so well.
Since it is rapidly becoming something of a social media celebrity, we thought it might be time to name the plough and we are inviting our young visitors to make suggestions. All name ideas will be put in a hat and a winner will be drawn during February half term opening. Prizes for the winner and runner up will be a choice of an official Munro the Stag or Glen the Loco plush toy sponsored by Caledonian Sleeper, plus an opportunity to visit the museum and get up close and behind the scenes with this fascinating piece of railway history.
Submit your entries to the team at the museum desk or make suggestions to museum@srps.org.uk. Good luck!
