Season Opening Preparations

Redisplay activities and essential maintenance

From this April, see new acquisitions and rediscover old favourites in our redisplayed exhibition halls.  Plus, look forward to exploring new outdoor displays and pull on your hi vis and follow us beyond the Museum walls to enjoy ‘full access’ tours of our working railway.

Redisplaying the visitor route

From February visitors will find some of our visitor route closed.  This is to allow us to redisplay and reinterpret our outdoor collections and complete essential maintenance work in readiness for our official reopening on April 19th.

Pre-season activities

Exhibition installation

In the exhibition halls, half term visitors will see our team preparing our 2025 exhibition on overnight travel and installing new acquisitions.  Our Conservation Crew will also be out doing Conservation in Action.  Do ask questions and feel free to get involved.  We always welcome new volunteers.

Redisplay of outdoor collections

Outside, the Museum Road and back path are currently closed to allow us to redisplay and interpret our extensive and unique wagon collection.

New nature walk

In line with our green agenda for 2025, we are in the process of designing a brand new nature walk behind the Museum buildings to help visitors explore the many species with whom we share our home in Bo’ness and reveal how we are safeguarding the rich natural history of the railway for the future.

Essential maintenance

We will be completing essential maintenance on fences around the site following recent storm damage.  For this reason, regular routes may be partially closed for a period while they are made safe.

Guided tours

While display areas are closed, we will be hosting regular guided tours around our workshops and reserve collection buildings, giving visitors a unique perspective on our collections and our work.
