SRPS Winter Talks – February

Brand new conservation in action kit waiting to be used

Our Winter Talk series continues on January 21st

Join us for our next winter talk of 2025 (and the first with an international flavour) on Tuesday 18th February.

This month’s topics include:

‘Reconstructing a Lost Train’ by Professor Euan Cameron

Euan is speaking to us from a snowy Connecticut in the USA. This is our first international participation in this new series of Winter Talks, but shows how  members can now participate, no matter how far away from our main site.  Spread the word!

This evening, Euan will show us how he set about the research and subsequent work necessary to reconstruct the coaching stock in the train which left Burntisland on the dark, stormy evening of 28th December 1879, never to make it across the Tay Bridge.

‘RCB Doings’ by Don Clarke

From theoretical recreation to the real thing!  Don Clarke of SRPS’ C&W Department, is in the business of painstakingly reconstructing and bringing back to life full scale, 12 inches to the foot rolling stock. This evening will be an opportunity to learn what wonderous ‘doings’ go on in that cold building we all know as the RCB.

Catch up on all the news – General Manager Katy will share what is happening this month around Bo’ness.

How to join

The talk will take place on Zoom and begins at 1930 with admission open from 1915.

Admission is free to all members, but donations of at least £2.00 are welcome. Visit SRPS’ donation page to support us.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

A record of restoration

Don not only practices and teaches the skills needed to restore our carriage and wagon stock, but for years has compiled and safeguarded records of how our restorations are accomplished by his team via the SRPS C&W website.

Read the story of how our Gresley First Class Sleeper No. E1211E was re-skinned, remediated, and recovered with the aim of giving the public a flavour of the charms of travelling through the wee small hours in 1935 and 1970 here.  In April, come and get a closer look when the fully restored carriage will be made fully accessible, alongside our MkIII Sleeper, as part of our 2025 exhibition on overnight travel.
